CM Punk has achieved a lot. From Indies, star to main show stardom, WWE legend, and promoter, Paul Heyman convinced Vince McMahon and the WWE to sign Punk after seeing his work in the independent circuit.
Mainly Ring of Honor which is a well-known independent wrestling company. Punk’s work would get him noticed. Once he was signed the rest was history.
But the question is – is CM Punk a Cancer? Now when you look at CM Punk you see an individual who is an extremely independent thinker that knows what he wants and what he wants for his career. I believe if you can work with him or respect his beliefs and views, you will be on the right track with Punk.
But at the same time, Punk’s views on the company throughout the years were sour. Why? Because he was real, he spoke the truth to a certain extent. But at the same time when looking back on his career, I can disagree with his views with the company and other wrestlers around him.
Because you see, when I watched Punk’s wrestling career I was a kid from elementary school who simply wanted to watch wrestling.
Stumbling upon Punk wrestling except for other wrestlers I found Punk to be my favorite wrestler.
I have seen him win it all. But when I look back at it again, I realize Punk was selfish. Once Punk had gained popularity, he was given everything and still, for Punk it was not enough. He did speak the truth about the WWE once his frustrations with the company, mainly Vince McMahon and Triple H.
Punk spoke the truth about wrestlers.
The main reason why well-known wrestler Jeff Hardy did not respect him due to Punk’s views on Hardy’s drug history. But Punk’s main frustration was because he felt other wrestlers and performers were not getting opportunities to prove themselves. When that was not the case at all.
Also citing that he did not get the opportunity to prove himself. Those frustrations led to the infamous “pipe bomb” Punk played out on John Cena during the summer of Monday Night Raw.
The infamous “pipe bomb” blew CM Punk into stardom, growing his popularity even more yet Punk still had frustrations with the company. That promo was created to put the company on notice that the company needed to improve on their talent being used properly and wanting the fans to get what they wanted.
But that is the thing, I was a fan of Punk until I realized Punk wanted what benefited himself. When you have a wrestling company, I do understand it will be hard to put every wrestler on the map for superstardom, it takes time, and they will have to work their way up.
Punk did the same thing, but he wanted to be on top. Did not want others to make it to the top unless he did. After holding the WWE championship for 434 days (about 1 year 2 and a half months), being the longest champion in modern history, and except for his other achievements, Punk still wanted more and whined when it never went his way.
I will give him the benefit of the doubt because not inserting Punk into the Cena versus Rock match at WrestleMania 29 was the wrong move but regardless the WWE had Punk’s back.
Hell, in 2009 Smackdown wanted Punk to be the main star, but Punk brushed off the Undertaker’s advice on being a professional champion. When Punk was fired from the WWE in 2014, on his wedding.
Punk’s last straw was the company not protecting him when he had the wrestle through a staph infection. When Punk left, the fans were saddened because many believed Punk did not deserve to leave and blamed the company for it. We did not hear from Punk until 2021 when he returned to wrestling’s newest company AEW.
We do not speak about his UFC career.
Now his return was the talked about moment in wrestling around that time. Punk was finally wrestling, fans got to see their favorite wrestler back. Things were fine, right? Not at all because he would get into a backstage brawl, from backstage heat. Kenny Omega and the Young Bucks who were household names in the independent scene have gotten into a fight.
Punk got into another altercation with fellow wrestler Jack Perry before getting terminated from his contract. Later he found out that many wrestlers could not bear to stand him.
Overall is CM Punk a cancer? Yes. Yeah, CM Punk is just a blunt guy who cared about the sport of pro wrestling but over the years he lost his passion for pro wrestling and strictly started enjoying it only if he was on top. I understood why wrestling legend Triple H never liked him.
Because when Triple H wanted to be on the top, he would let everyone know his way. Triple H was also selfish, but the difference is, he admitted to it. Punk tried to mask it putting on a facade like he cared when he cared about himself. His ego got to him which is why most wrestlers lost tremendous respect for him as a wrestler and most importantly as a person.
