February 2nd in the NBA world was riddled when Dallas Maverick’s franchise player Luka Doncic was suddenly traded in a blockbuster deal for Los Angeles laker and champion Anthony Davis.
The trade not only shook up the NBA community but also left fans confused on how the trade became possible. The thought process of Luka Doncic being related in conversations in trade talks becomes a shocker.
From his rookie season in the 2018-2019 season the Dallas community were blessed to have another great start in their hands. The star coming into the franchise at the right time as Dallas legend Dirk Nowitzki was heading out for his final season, with Doncic taking control and getting into rhythm, the mavericks were set for success. As the seasons went on It was well known that Luka was the face of Dallas.
2019 being a momentous year for the Rookie it was also a wonderful year for the lakers as the franchise traded for Anthony Davis who was on the pelicans at the time for the laker’s young core with Ball, Hart, and Ingram. A win trade for its time a year later the Lakers won a championship while the Pelicans gave their star Zion Williamson more pieces for their time. Also giving the lakers a resurgence. Yet, that trade made sense.
The trade from both sides has some pro attributes towards it while reality sets in and makes fans from both sides understand the trade is honestly illogical offensively and defensively. With the Dalla Mavericks relying more on offense in games with their star player averaging more numbers win or lose. Yet their only downfall is defense which they have now but in cost they lost the one player that can help the team offensive. Same going with the lakers losing defense but gaining offense in the process, both teams need those two to fully flourish as a team.
Luck has been getting the better of Doncic in bad light as NBA rules stated the 25-year-old star will not be qualified for the MVP race due to missed games, due to injury. Also meaning the star’s chances for receiving his max contract will fall through plans. With a $15 million dollar house purchase from the star as well whatever happening to the star, he was still sure of staying in the world of Dallas. Yet those moments shifted when he found out his new home would be in Los Angeles. Leaving him from the media’s word “devastated.”
Looking at Davis’s perspective on the trade comes off as shocking. Being a pivot piece for the lakers since 2019 gaining the team a championship since 2010 made the lakers seen as a threat for years to come. Years went on with a slow expectation for another championship and the team was still looked at as a threat. The lakers having James and Davis as core players made the team stable. Now that Davis is traded, LA will lack the power forward’s presence. In Anthony’s words he did not know about the trade nor thought it was a possibility. With Davis saying.
“I found out like an hour later I was no longer with the team. I was in shock, obviously. I had no idea that was happening,” he added. “But now, I’m kind of over it and just getting ready to play with Dallas.”
Davis’s strong suit is his defense, yet his downfall comes from injuries, Davis is injured in a game, so it will leave point guard star Kyrie Irving by himself to defend himself.
Luka’s thoughts on the trade were difficult at first but got adjusted to the system when going through acceptance.
Saying “Honestly, it was hard at first. That first day was hard. I felt like this last 48 hours was one month, like two days ago was one month ago,” Doncic said. “So emotionally, it was hard. But every day after like today was much better. I am just very happy to be here for this opportunity. This is the Lakers. It is one of the best clubs in history. So, I am excited to be here.”
Trades left and right in the league, from the reaction fans gave and genuine emotions about it, this is seen as the most shocking trades in the NBA as of now. The focus of attention is seeing which team will win the trade now. Most importantly, which team will win overall? For now, we will see what takes place.
