The current year was a tumultuous year for the film industry, but 2021 is posed for a rebound year.  Yet many massive blockbuster movies that were scheduled to release in 2020 had to be postponed because of COVID-19. 

The race toward a COVID-19 vaccine continues to near a close, with the last vaccine being 94.8 percent effective at combatting the virus. When the vaccine is officially released to the general public, nationwide social distancing guidelines will slowly dissipate. A relatively COVID-19 free America will likely be full of anxious moviegoers, ready to see their favorite films in movie theatres with their friends and family. 

A movie that generated massive hype in 2020 was the new installment in the James Bond franchise: “No Time to Die.” It was initially scheduled to release in April of 2020 but was put off. 

The song, “No Time To Die” by rising pop star, Billie Eilish, was set to be the theme song for the new movie. It has been four years in the making, beginning its development in 2016. Throughout the tenure of its creation, the film cost $250 million. A huge budget was thrown toward household name A-list actors and cream of the crop special effects. 

Just a few of the huge movie stars headlining the movie include Daniel Craig as James Bond, Christoph Waltz as Ernst Stavo Blofeld, Rami Malik as Safin, and Ana De Armas as Paloma.

The new release date for the film is April 2, 2021. 

The original “Ghostbusters” movies, released in 1984 and 1989, had a long-awaited sequel. The last attempt failed miserably and led to a horrible reboot. The 2016 box office flop left people disappointed and unenthused. 

This time around, producer, Ivan Reitman, worked alongside his son, director and writer, Jason Reitman, to create “Ghostbusters: Afterlife.” 

The movie follows the story of a family moving to a small town in Oklahoma to try and start a new life. They soon realize that a connection with the original Ghostbusters gang is in their blood and they have a legacy to fulfill.

The movie features high profile actors like Paul Rudd as Mr. Grooberson, Bill Murray as Dr. Peter Venkman, Mckenna Grace as Phoebe, and Carrie Coon as Callie. The initial release date for the film was July 10, 2020, but again, it was postponed because of COVID-19. 

When the film finally releases, it will be broadcasted in IMAX and Dolby Cinema to give viewers the full experience they’ve been waiting for.

The new release date for the film is on June 11, 2021.

Big budget action movies have long been a cornerstone of the American film industry. Famously on that list is the “Fast and Furious” franchise. The ninth main installment in the franchise: “F9: The Fast Saga,” does not appear to be a disappointment. 

The movie features the same crew that fans have come to know and love, and it directly picks up where the previous movie, “The Fate of The Furious,” released in 2017, ended off. 

Vin Diesel’s character, Dominic Toretto, is set to battle against Jakob, Dominic’s younger brother, played by John Cena, with more underlying drama. 

The original release date for the film was on May 22, 2020, but it, too, is expected to release following the COVID-19 pandemic. The long-awaited next movie of this beloved franchise is now set to release on May 28, 2021. 

There has also been a guaranteed tenth installment which has a preliminary release date of April 2, 2022

It is a relief that these blockbuster movies will still be released in 2020. Hopefully, by their respective release dates, COVID-19 will have had a proven vaccine and be on the downtrend. These movies will be pertinent to the resurgence and illumination of a film industry that struggled mightily during the pandemic.
