Music- vocal or instrumental sounds combined in such a way as to produce beauty of form, harmony, and expression of emotion, is one beautiful thing. We were lucky enough to have some phenomenal musicians on our own campus. The music Program held an event of their own, trying to show others their craft.
Music Program student Thomas D’Andrea handed out flyers all week in the main hotspots here at Mercy University so he can promote this event, get a crowd, and let the music do its job. This past Thursday, November 14th, in the Rotunda Hall, located on the first floor of Founders Hall, some of the students including Thomas in the music program decided to host an event, where anyone can come down to a little get together or concert, and those who make music in the program can share their talents and tunes. From Camera crew to the singers, this was a full team effort it seemed.
From house music to heavy metal, there was a solid option for anyone who attended, if you’re like me willing to expand your taste by any means, this was a W in my book. Many different faces who were showing off their music, which was a treat to see. As me and company arrived, they were still setting up and putting on finishing touches and anything last minute. As the cameras started rolling and the lights went down, they kicked off the show with some edm or house music. This grabbed my full attention right away, just simply how unique it sounded, something you can dance too.
About 20-30 minutes roll by, new equipment started to make its way in, more drums, guitars, both nonelectric and electric, few microphones. Next up, we had some rock but mostly Heavy Metal, led by Thomas and company. Turned a lot of heads in that room, especially mine, they are very good at their craft. Each person played their role and did their job, which is a big part of how this group had its success that night. A big bonus was the group was generous enough to have food, dessert, and beverages to people who showed up early
I had the honor to interview Thomas after the event, here is what he had to say about who helped him throughout the process of making this event happen and what he thought about how it went, as well as the turnout.
” A variety of people helped me from the studio tonight, those being our studio manager who booked this space for us, we also had Kevin, Ash, a bunch of the studio workers, and people from the music program, it was a big community effort tonight.”
It went pretty good in my book, there was more people than I expected, I handed out flyers all week around campus, had a very good turnout, hopefully we can do something like this again soon.”
Whenever you get the opportunity to see anyone from the music program perform, would highly recommend getting out and give them your full attention, it’s extremely fascinating to witness firsthand such a diversification of genres and instruments.
