Masks Required For Most On Campus
COVID-19 forced students and faculty into wearing masks for the foreseeable future while on campus.
Mercy College handed out free masks to the students who didn’t have any for wanted to represent their Maverick pride just before the opening of the new year.
“Mercy College purchased a reusable cotton masks to pride to each student, faculty and staff member as apart of the reopening plan and they have distributed over 6,000 masks,” stated by the executive director for campus safety and emergency management Konrad Motyka.
Many people were happy that Mercy has distributed masks to students, faculty and staff who didn’t have any. Some people don’t like the idea of masks but they can not see that it is necessary for their health. These masks would be able to protect the people from COVID-19 so they could travel to and from school like normal everyday people.
Masks are essential to everyone enrolled in Mercy College to take courses in class. There are other safety suggestions Mercy is providing during COVID-19 for those living in the dorms.
Stay away from other people in their home as much as possible, staying in a separate room and using a separate bathroom if possible. Do not allow visitors. Wear a face mask if they have to be around people. Avoid sharing household items, including drinking cups, eating utensils, towels and bedding. Clean high-touch surfaces daily. Continue monitoring their symptoms and call their health care provider if their condition worsens.
In it’s safety plans, Mercy shared the importance of masks.
“Face masks or appropriate face coverings must be worn by all employees working on-site when in the presence of others and in public settings where other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain,” says the Employee Guide For Returning to Work manual as it states appropriate use of face masks or coverings is critical in minimizing risk to others nearby.
“You could spread COVID-19 to others even if you do not feel sick. The mask or cloth face covering is not a substitute for social distancing,” it adds.
A face covering is not required if working alone in a confined office space: however, a face covering is required when working in a partitioned work area in a large open environment.
Acceptable face coverings include the Mercy-issued cloth face coverings or other cloth face coverings, surgical masks, and N95 respirators.
“Bandanas, neck fleeces, and valve masks are not considered acceptable face coverings while at work.”
The manual states that “Individuals with disabilities may request a modification to the face mask requirement.” Please see the College’s COVID-19 Accommodations Policy.
Users are suggested to wash hands or use hand sanitizer prior to handling all masks. Make sure it fits under the nose and chin, make sure the straps are tight and try to avoid touching the mask once it is on. Once the mask is on and secured correctly people are ready to go about their day.
Everyone is trying to keep people from the hospital so that masks should be secured on the face of who wears them. Wearing a mask is a priority to a number of public places. People just want to keep each other safe during the pandemic.
Even when taking the masks off when going home or something be sure to clean the mask thoroughly with alcohol or any sanitizing solution because there may be bacteria on the mask that might have COVID-19. Same goes with hands too wash them thoroughly with warm water for about 20 minutes. After that people just go on with their day.
