8) Rise (2022)

This film tells the story of Giannis’ family’s journey from Nigeria to illegally immigrating to Greece. Antetokounmpo and his brothers found basketball as a way out while their family was on the run. This was an amazing story that explored the growth of Giannis and how he became great over the years. The movie showed how his parents made sacrifices for him and his siblings to live a better life and follow his dreams of making the NBA.

7) Like Mike (2002)

This movie explored the importance of building relationships and how a pair of shoes struck by lightning can make you great overnight. Calvin Cambridge, a foster kid who loves to play basketball, gets the opportunity to play for the hometown Los Angeles Knights after beating Knight player Tracy Reynolds while wearing a pair of Jordan sneakers in a one-on-one contest. The connection between Reynolds and Cambridge established the lesson of trusting people and attacking obstacles.

6) Full-Court Miracle (2003)

A film that discovers how an ancient history connected to an underrated Hebrew Academy basketball team can help find a miracle to succeed. Alex Schlocky, team captain who is obsessed with basketball goes out of the loop to get NBA dream chaser Lamont Carr as their missing piece to lead his team from worst to first. The movie gives an insight of Jewish culture and believing in your dreams. Disney does a good job showing how sports can be effective from a different culture.

5) Double Teamed (2002)

Another Disney Channel basketball movie but this one is based on a true story about the Burge twins who were the first sister duo to play in the WNBA. Heidi and Heather are sisters who are forced to participate in sports by their father because they are tall. The twins are challenged with living with a less interactive social life and trusting their future goals. The movie explores the importance of playing sports and making sacrifices to build a career.

4) Hurricane Season (2009)

One of the most inspirational films about a high school basketball coach who puts on a basketball season after Hurricane Katrina hits New Orleans. Coach Collins takes a risk at building his team around a bunch of high school players from different areas to participate in the upcoming season. The movie covers how a devastating event would not stop a coach from having a season and believing that anything is possible.

3) Space Jam (1996)

An exciting movie on this list where Michael Jordan and Bugs Bunny join forces to defeat an evil alien theme park owner who wants to steal the looney tunes characters for a new attraction. This film is one of the best life lesson sports films that you would ever see and deserve an Oscar. Coach Ken Carter returns to high school alma mater to get his players into shape and redefine a winning culture. The movie illustrates Carter’s discipline to his team of understanding respect and excelling in education. His commitment taught the boys how professionalism and staying out of trouble will make them role models.
