Lady Mavs Are ECC Champions
Led by a hat trick from senior Heidi Serna, the Mercy College Women’s Soccer Team took home their second East Coast Conference championship with a 3-0 win over LIU Post this past Saturday. This is the first time Mercy has beaten LIU Post in program history.
With their second ECC Championship, the Mavericks, now 16-3, secured a spot in the NCAA Tournament. This will be their third NCAA appearance in the past five years. After the NCAA selection show on Monday, the Mavericks secured the second seed.
Excited for the tournament is senior midfielder, Heidi Serna. After scoring a hat trick in the finals, Serna feels that her team is ready for the upcoming tournament.
“Coming off the game with a hat trick was a great feeling. I feel like it boosted our team’s confidence up a lot and going into the tournament with the win was just what we needed. The game was a great test for us, and we were able to see the level of competition we will be facing in the NCAA.”
The Mavericks host the No. 3 seed Southern New Hampshire University and No. 6 seed Georgian Court University on Friday for the first round of the tournament. Sunday, the Mavericks host the winner of that matchup at 12pm on Mercy Field.
