#1 Men’s Soccer Face Off Against #4 Molloy
The Mercy men’s soccer team looks to return to the ECC Championship for the first time in over a decade when they face off against Molloy College.
Men’s soccer will host Molloy at Mercy field today at 1:00 p.m. Mercy won their last game against Molloy 3-0 on October 5th.
Mercy is the top seed for the second straight season and they will look for their first ECC championship since 2004. With this appearance, Mercy has gone to the ECC championship for three straight years.
Mercy will lean heavily on their top scorer midfielder Ignacio Mangada who has a team-high 22 points on the season. He has been doing it all this season scoring eight goals and six assists. Mercy will also need the help of senior forward Santiago Corral who has 17 points on the season. Goalkeeper Joel Serrano will also be busy today as he looks to add on to his 28 saves.
As for Molloy, this is their first appearance since 2016. Molloy ended the season hot as they are on a six-game winning streak heading into this playoff game. Anthony Cestaro has had a stellar season scoring 24 points for Molloy. Carlos Bonilla has 19 points on the season and will look to add on to that against Mercy College.
The Mavericks are coming off a 3-1 victory against the District of Columbia. Head coach Pedro Velazquez will look to keep the Mavericks rolling in a tough match up against Molloy.
Mercy has a 7-6 record against Molloy and also two ties. The Mavericks have scored 28 goals against Molloy.
Whoever comes out on top today with face Bridgeport/Roberts Wesleyan in the Championship Game on Saturday, November 16th.
Mercy students get in free with a Mercy ID. Adult tickets will be eight dollars and all kids under 12 get in for free. It is also four dollars for military veterans and senior citizens.
