Volleyball Ends Season Hot; Looks To Upset Molloy In Playoffs
The Mercy Volleyball team has made the playoffs of the ECC Tournament for the first time since 2008 and will enter the tournament as the 4th seed. The Mavericks end the season 14-17 (5-5). They also won three out of the last four games to end the season. They will take on Molloy 23-4(10-0) who is the #1 seed in the Tournament
The Mavericks have won the ECC Tournament four times in their history. They last won the ECC Championship in 2001.
They have been led this season by senior Imani DeBose who has an ECC-best 375 kills and 3.47 kills per set with a .211 hitting percentage. Sophomore Loreto Nunez Casal is second on the team with 282 kills and has a .222 hitting percentage.
Junior Natalia Garcia has a team-high 941 assists and is second on the team with 310 digs. The setter also has 149 kills and a .276 hitting percentage. Junior Adriana Lopez-Soto leads the team with 445 digs and recorded her 1,000th career dig in the Mavericks win over Queens on Saturday. Sophomore Selma Vulic is third on the team with 195 kills and is third with 296 digs and senior NeKendra Liddie has a team-high 57 blocks.
For Molloy, they became the first team with a perfect run through ECC play since 2014 and is making their third straight championship appearance. The Lions won their lone ECC title in 2017.
Mercy has dropped both games to the Lions this season 0-3 and 1-3, respectively.
The Mavericks will look to get revenge as they face the Lions in the Semi-Finals of the ECC Tournament, on November 22nd. The game will take place at Rockville Centre, N.Y. and will start at 5 pm.
