That’s right; Christmas is right around the corner. What is usually considered the most magical or what was said in a song “the best time of the year,” it is now going to be the time of gifting and fighting through snow to make it to a family party. But what does that mean? Why would this possibly make it the most magical holiday?
Listen, it is completely okay to not feel that Christmas is the best holiday or at least one of them, but it shouldn’t sound crazy or far fetched to say so. First of all, Christmas isn’t just a holiday about gifting, since that seems pretty bland. It’s been said before that Christmas is more about giving and receiving back, but it doesn’t necessarily have to mean presents. It can be about how you, your family, and your friends spend it together and the memories you share in the actions that you do that can make it special. It may sound cheesy, but it warms most people’s hearts when you give to others in need, or even try giving to your family members and friends first to surprise them.
It feels like it always has to start with your parents keeping up traditions. Meaning that they would have to start when you are little, like putting the elf around the corner for you to find when you wake up. There are so many spots a parent can hide the elf around the house, that it can even be fun for the parent to do and would make it feel less like a chore! When you’re a kid, the memories of looking around for an elf that you named when you first saw it last a lifetime. It has to be so joyous for parents as well to watch their child have the biggest smile on their face when going around trying to find their little Christmas buddy!
Giving Christmas movies a watch that you’ve never seen with your family is also a great way to spend time indoors when it is too cold during your days of Christmas. There are a number of movies that were made for the occasion and there would be no way that someone would’ve watched all of them!
Another small note, but one that is present in our everyday Christmas season is…the music! The songs that they start to play at the end of November to December marks the countdown. Besides just sounding like pleasant holiday songs to pass cheer, they get you in the feel of Christmas and already give the escape to the holiday that you so desperately need after a long day at school, or after working a job.
To be fair, jobs and schools will also try and get more festive for their workers and students by decorating their areas or organize a “Secret Santa”. So, they can decide to buy presents up to a certain budget for someone, but they won’t know who they’ll get. Then when the day comes, they exchange the gifts they got for each other and everyone has a nice time together. There aren’t really holidays that set that much up for people when they’re working before the holidays, besides getting food for each other on Thanksgiving, which can also be done for Christmas too!
Also, there’s an even bigger thing that you would have to do in order to truly give your house the Christmas feel. Or in other words, you need to put up your Christmas tree of course! Everyone either buys a fake or real tree since that part doesn’t matter as much. The true feeling of decorating it in the house with your own personally made or bought ornaments with ribbons, but you can’t forget about the golden star on top. It truly makes up for a lot of memories when you take the time to decorate the tree with your family on a cold day outside and you have the temperature just right.
Another one of the most important things to do during the holiday is to take the kids’ wishes for presents! It sounds obvious, but it’s more than buying your family and friends presents. This goes back to when it said that it’s about giving too. Not only for family and friends, but visiting a local shelter, or even giving something to foster children can make it feel more special for the good that you are doing for people you might not always get a chance to do something for. Therefore, Christmas should be the ultimate holiday of not as much just getting, but giving back to what we need within each other. When you simply give to others and you see the look of joy and smiles on their faces, it’s something that hits you right at the heart, and that is something that you can’t always have throughout other holidays.
