Well, it’s official after Groundhog Day.
We officially have six more weeks of winter before it swings back to the summer. The famous groundhog named Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow on Feb. 2. Then one of the radio stations played an interview that was caught between a bystander and the reporter discussing the snow storm and Groundhog Day. The reporter asked what the person thought about us having six more weeks of snow and the person being interviewed said something along the lines of “I’m excited about it honestly. I prefer to be in the cold winter season cause it just feels more comfortable, natural, and better to me.”
It isn’t hard to believe that a person depending on how they are living can succumb to the weather either way, but it feels like this all goes back to that one conversation that you may or may not have had as a kid with a friend or parent asking you a question being: “Do you prefer the warmth in the summer or the cold in the winter?”
I don’t know about you guys, but recently how this storm has been…giving us 20 degree weather and even less than that doesn’t really feel good to me at all. I mean of course I’ve heard people prefer cold temperatures over hot, but this storm is anything but better, comfortable, or natural. I mean respectfully, who can be this out of their mind?
The media is reporting that 16 New Yorkers died in the cold because of the weather conditions. Sure, I guess it depends on the conditions themselves, such as if they were under a house with warmth and had any food possible. Also, you wouldn’t be wrong to argue about the point that people can also lose their lives to extreme heat in the summer too.
Aside from the storm weather itself, I understand that some people like the winter season more because maybe they focus more on the nice feeling of putting on more layers and trying to stay warm, rather than trying to get more air in the summer. But to me, it almost feels like we’re supposed to work toward going to places where it is hotter and as some people would say “nicer outside” rather than being stuck in the cold in your home.
However, the one thing that you can argue is about personal preference under harsh weather conditions as mentioned earlier. What I mean is that at the end of the day, I get the point that people make when they say that it could be easy. All you have to do is whoever prefers the cold over heat is an indoor type of person more, while whoever prefers the heat over the cold is more of an outdoor person trying to cool themselves off outside with friends and family.
Well, I don’t think it’s as simple as that because I myself could be argued to be more of an indoor kind of guy, but I do genuinely want to go outside more sometimes, but don’t attempt to when I’m freezing my ass off or sweating in places too much that I don’t want to sweat in.
The winter fairly does even give you some things to do, like going sledding with family and friends or snowball fights, depending on how much snow you get. But then again, it feels like this is trying to make the most out of something that feels uncomfortable to deal with while just trying to live. Because personally when the summer hits, I love trying to go to the pool more or even have outside dining with someone. Feeling the breeze around your neck on a warm summers day, preferably around 80-85 degrees is just something that no other weather feeling comes quite close to for me, especially sharing that with family and friends is a lot easier than putting on more clothes and fighting over the blankets to me. Of course, no one ever said that it wasn’t up to you or your preference, but if I had my choice, I would always choose to be in hotter temperatures more.
