UConn women’s head coach Geno Auriemma led the Huskies to an 85-41 win over Fairleigh Dickison to become the all-time winningest head coach in NCAA women’s basketball history.
Auriemma has been at the helm for 40 seasons where he has produced champions, and a program made for dominating over the last decade in his career. He would not have this much success with assistant coach Chris Daley who has worked with him since the beginning to put UConn on the map.
Geno only needed one more to pass Tara VanDerveer, longtime Stanford coach who was previous leader, after tying with her last week against North Carolina on the road in Greensboro. This is a special moment for Auriemma who is the goat of women’s basketball and has developed great talent over the years.
His legacy will live on forever as he continues to lead his program with a winning culture and setting his players to be good role models on and off the court. This program has set the standard for many years as Auriemma has put together great teams over the year to establish championships and undefeated seasons in his career.

UConn great players like Diana Taurasi, Sue Bird, Maya Moore, and other women basketball alums who have played under Geno Auriemma were courtside to witness Auriemma all-time career win yesterday for an amazing celebration. Geno has produced many of his players to make roster spots for the Women’s National Basketball Association and overseas to establish careers.
Some of the players that came from the program have gone on to win championships and Olympic medals throughout their basketball careers. The winning mentality that Geno sets for his program gives players the ability to continue the standard once they become professional players.
Auriemma always tracks down the best talent for his program every season to bring in a great player from high school and developed their skills in a four-year span. He has coached at least eleven players who were the number ranking player in their class to play in his dominate program.
Other than coaching at UConn, Auriemma has led to USA to three gold medals in 2000, 2012 and 2016 of the Olympics with some of his alums on the roster. This experience allows him to work with pro athletes to uses his teachings at the college level and add high level of competitiveness towards the players.
Geno Auriemma career at UConn has been filled with dominating success and accomplishments in his program throughout the years. He started from the bottom in his first four seasons to bringing in top elite talent that continued to growth throughout the seasons and winning national championships.
Auriemma will continue to have success seasons forever as UConn begins their road back to the national championship this year after facing injuries in the past seasons.
