The Deficiency of Creativity

The+Deficiency+of+Creativity

The enjoyment of watching films never gets boring to me. I’ve watched films I have never seen before, and after seeing them, I have received high praise for them. I enjoy what is behind the media. I want it because of what is behind these works of art. You sense those who created this work were passionate about it and had the enjoyment of working their craft. Whether it’s the writing, editing, and the actors always being passionate about the film, these attributes make these films/television shows a classic.

But I do not get that enjoyment anymore watching shows and movies.
Everything now definitely lacks creativity, and it is at an all-time high.

Now I feel like movies chase cash grabs rather than hitting down and working on a film people will remember. Many people were diehard fans when “No Way Home” was released, yet when I watched it, I felt a sense of laziness about it. Because look, let’s add the two Spidermen from previous movies and all their villains, mesh them together, and call it a day. When they could’ve built around their actual Spiderman, Tom Holland, people still praised it, which is fine; to each of their own.

Then “The Batman” was released, and people were quick to talk bad about it because of Robert’s portal, and people started comparing him to Christain Bales’s portrayal, which is weird because the last Batman film we got was in 2012. However, the difference between those films is that “The Batman” was perfectly crafted and took their time.

That film’s editing, acting, sound, and cinematography were perfect. There are numerous references from other classic films, but I still respect the creator of that specific film to have that creative trait. “No Way Home” lacked the importance of “Spiderman’s character and had his hand being held throughout the movie. I found it lazy because it is excellent that Tobey and Andrew are back.

But still, at the end of the day, this is Tom’s story, and making another solo Spiderman film with only him would have been better. But when you return to the film, you know everything was rushed. From editing the CGI, everything felt rushed. MCU after No Way Home became a cash grab, honestly, making movies and dropping them every month, knowing it would not do so well because these movies can’t release this fast and not expect anything negative about it.

It is original. Getting some inspiration is cool, but it becomes stale when you abuse it and barely use any of your ideas.

This is why the state of films could be better; there needs to be more ideas. Why do we need remakes of former classics? There is no need for that. Honestly, the purpose of these films is to focus more on money rather than their craft. The purpose of cinema opened my eyes more during the pandemic. Locked inside the house for a long time, I had the time to watch many films. From “Goodfellas” to “Kill Bill” to many more classics, I have realized how great these movies were.

But there was one thing they did a good thing about. Instead of creating remakes or being lazy for film, they produced an initial idea. Disney went from making classics to remaking their classics. For what reason? Marvel went from making at least two movies a year to making almost five films a year, rushing their product. I honestly appreciate movies back then because they felt organic. Now it feels like people in the world of film care more about money than trying to make a good movie.
