The world is slowly changing, and so are the next generation about same-sex marriage.

A new video on YouTube from The Fine Brothers called “Kids React to Gay Marriage” have children from the ages of 5-13 discuss their beliefs on gay marriage. Their answers were remarkably insightful and inspirational.

The video begins with the kids watching two different viral videos of gay marriage proposals, and then a brief Q&A about their opinions surrounding gay marriage. Their reactions to the video are extremely heartwarming, suggesting that rights for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Americans won’t be an issue for the next generation.

One participant even said “If one person should be able to do something, then everybody else should be able to do it”.

Despite one child who was very young and new to the concept of gay marriage, none of the children that were interviewed had a mean or arrogant comment. They were all very accepting, and even admitted to having friends and family members who are gay.

This video is just a preview of our future. Children are learning at a young age that it’s okay to be a bit different. Maybe I’m being a bit of an optimistic, but maybe the idea of acceptance of everyone is achievable. Watching this video and realizing that these kids are so accepting to what some people still don’t support.

They were even frustrated when they were asked if it was okay to give gays the same rights as married couples, but not the title. One of them stated “They’re deprived of one thing which is sort of a major milestone.”

What I don’t understand is why some people are so angry about this video. A lot of people felt that the Fine Brothers were wrong for making this video, as they were exposing the children to “same-sex marriage at a young age”.

Before the video began, a message read “The opinions of children about these issues can give incredibly valuable insight into where our society currently stands and where we are headed as people. It’s important to discuss these topics openly in hopes of a better tomorrow through dialogue and conversation.”

I find it shocking that parents wouldn’t want to discuss this with their children. They can discuss that people are different and that’s okay. Why wouldn’t parents want to instill that in their children? Those who are different are usually the ones who get bullied in school. Why not eliminate some of that hate? Who knows, maybe it can lead us one step closer to a world with tolerance for others.

If this is the direction our world is heading, then I love it. With the exception of one child who was too young to understand the concept of gay marriage, these children gave wonderful and inspiring answers that really make you smile.
