Style: There’s a Time and a Place For Everything
It’s one thing to be confident in your body. It’s another thing to dress appropriately.
I truly believe dressing appropriately is something that is learned by parents. Examples of what you should and should not wear. And what exactly they let you leave the house wearing. It’s this conditioning that leaves a child with the impression on what to wear and when to wear it and whether it is appropriate or not.
Not saying that everyone should dress the same and have the same styles. Because that defeats the purpose of clothes in general.
Clothes are a way to express your personality through the way you dress. It gives the first glimpse into your personality, even before speaking with a person. Whether you like to wear bright vibrant colors, maybe just one color that is your favorite, earthy tones, all black all the time or maybe even change it up every single day. The world is your very stylish oyster.
For example, I’m the type of person who generally dresses how I’m feeling. And most of the time is comfortable, because let’s face it 99% of my life I’m usually exhausted for no reason. Or if I’m feeling adventurous I’ll take a chance and change it up because why not?! they’re only clothes and it’s only for one day, sometimes not even.
And if I get something that everyone else has I’ll wear it in a different type of way. Your style is based solely upon you, and your ability to rock whatever you put on.
While being adventurous and taking risks is what makes fashion and style so much fun, it’s the inappropriate decisions that make it not so fun for others.
Being an avid people watcher I tend to notice this more than most people. Maybe it’s also because one of my jobs includes sitting at a desk in a hallway that no one looks down, while the town’s finest roam the halls unaware of my watching eye. Yeah that’s right I’m actually big brother. AKA Mall Customer Service Rep!
When seeing girls with super short shorts, butt hanging out the back and all, and then a shirt that looks like they got in the children’s section not covering their stomachs, I just don’t understand. Not because I don’t understand that style I totally do. It’s cute.
But for girls who are about 13 or 14 it’s just not appropriate. Especially for just a day around the mall. But there is a time and a place. Maybe for EDC or Coachella or some other music festivals sure. This could be appropriate.
And then there’s the other half of dressing for your body type.
Don’t get me wrong I’m all about everyone loving the skin they’re in and working it! YOU GO GIRLS! I’m not the smallest of girls and no matter what the haters say I’m continually going to refuse to wear parachutes and rugs around unless they’re cute and just so happen to be in style. But that doesn’t mean I’m going to wear shirts that clearly weren’t made for my body type.
Some clothes were made to just not be on me. And that’s completely okay. I’ll let someone else rock those styles. Because I know I can do better than that.
But if there’s one thing that bothers me when I look at a tag it’s this little saying. “ONE SIZE FITS ALL.”
One size fits all my ass! If you ever get a chance to get out Buzzfeed’s study into this you’ll realize why one size fits all stores are a bunch of BS, and I refuse to support them. No matter how cute the clothes are.
I’m never going to be comfortable wearing almost nothing around. And if I were I wouldn’t be doing it in a mall in public in front of children and families. And neither should the skinniest most confident girls. Location is everything.
I know, I know, who am I to give style and fashion advice. But then again it’s not so much fashion advice as much as it is advice about the timing for fashion statements.
Well that’s all I have to say about thing’s for now! Until next time keep it classy, take risks in your wardrobe and have fun with it!
