When I ook at Katt Williams’s career, I see a successful comedian who has held his own throughout the years. When I watched Friday After Next, I enjoyed the movie of his character because I knew he did enough to make the film memorable after the decline of Friday’s success.
There is no doubt about it. Katt Williams is one of the funniest comedians we have graced in the industry for a while. However, as I got older, I wondered why he had just disappeared. Many people who are famous in the world of fame never last long, the way I see it. You either become famous and end up being an everlasting name or a flavor of the month. The month ends, and you will be forgotten. However, Katt stayed behind the limelight of his respect for himself.
Club Shay Shay, hosted by former NFL and NBA analyst Shannon Sharpe, is a well-known podcast because it is Shannon Sharpe. Nevertheless, when he hosted an episode of Club Shay Shay with Katt Williams, the rest was history. The comedian did not hold back in the slightest. He exposed almost everyone he had encountered, addressing actors and comedians he disliked for his reasons. Actors that dislike him.
Katt spoke about:
- Steve Harvey
- Martin Lawrence
- Sean Combs, Aka “P Diddy”
- Rickey Smiley
- Brandon T Jackson
- Kevin Hart
- Bernie Mac – Gave praise to the late comedian.
He let the whole world know. It is Sharpe’s most popular episode to this day.
I am watching the documentary and noticing Williams talking with no filter while Sharpe looks nervous. This was the icing on the cake. Katt did not care. He did not care about the industry and disliked what it stood for because of what it represented. However, why is Katt Williams unlikeable? Because he is real.
Most people in the industry with fame and fortune tend to forget who they are and become sellouts. Whatever world you are in regarding what you want to do, you will always bump into bad people. You must avoid whatever bad people approach you and do things your way. That is what Katt Williams did; from what he spoke about in the podcast, he never sold out. Everyone he met in the industry sold out without a care.
Nevertheless, the ones that sold out are the first ones to bash you for sticking to yourself. He was frustrated because you have pride. That is what the industry Katt saw. You can tell Katt Williams was the celebrity who worked his way up, and when seeing what the industry was like, he backed away and stood his ground.
Standing his ground is why Kevin Hart disliked him in an interview. He stated that he was the reason he never lived up to his expectations. However, Kevin Hart got his role because Williams declined it. Brandon T Jackson was a rising actor with films such as “Fast and Furious” “Tropic Thunder” and “Lottery Ticket.” However, Williams warned him not to take up the “Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son” role, but the young actor felt Williams was trashing his career and calling him bitter.
Katt felt Martin did not need to do three Big Momma movies and had got the young gullible actor involved. Flash forward now, Brandon has not been in a big-budget film in years and left the industry, giving praise to Williams and saying Williams was trying to help him. Steve Harvey was getting bashed because Katt explained that he felt some way because Bernie Mac was more successful than him, which is why Harvey has never been in many movies; he was never good for Hollywood. All these thrown shots and these celebrities and famous people as a whole will make you unlikeable. People will assume you are challenging to work with when you are not a sellout.
Say what you want about the famous comedian. However, I respect his pride. What I have learned about Hollywood is Katt’s expression of the many others have expressed. Hollywood is a challenging place to experience. The people there will wear masks and show their true colors when they come off. People will use you, sadly, to take advantage of your fame to get ahead. It changed everyone there, so Katt wanted to refrain from participating in anything Hollywood offered him.
People hate him because he is right, deep down. Many celebrities, whether actors or singers, only open up about the dark side of Hollywood years later. It just took courage for Katt to stand up for himself if anything got out of hand. Dave Chappelle had enough pride not to become a sellout, and in exchange, people viewed him as crazy during the Oprah Winfrey Show. It is a wild world.
If the people in the industry hate Katt Williams for sticking to his beliefs, so be it.
