HELP Ministries hosted an engaging Sip N Paint event in the Commuter’s Lounge last week, providing students with an evening of relaxation, creativity, and community-building. The event drew a diverse crowd, many looking for a fun break from their busy schedules. HELP Ministries used this opportunity to raise awareness about their organization, encouraging more students to join their faith-based community.
Sip N Paint events have grown increasingly popular in recent years, offering a perfect blend of relaxation and creativity. These events combine guided painting sessions with the casual enjoyment of beverages, creating a low-pressure environment where participants can explore their artistic sides. For many, Sip N Paint is not just about painting but about taking time to unwind and connect with others. Whether it’s friends looking for a new activity or individuals eager to try something outside their comfort zone, these events appeal to a wide range of people.
“It honestly just sounded fun and it was something to do. I mean I never painted before so I wanted to try it,” said Junior Brandon S.
The Sip N Paint hosted by HELP Ministries primarily aimed to familiarize students with the organization and its work. Known for their dedication to supporting spiritual growth on campus, HELP Ministries holds regular events, including Bible studies on Tuesday evenings at Vic Café. These informal gatherings offer a welcoming environment where students can discuss scripture and reflect on its relevance to their lives. For those seeking a deeper exploration of faith, HELP Ministries also hosts more structured sit-down Bible study sessions every Tuesday.
“We wanted to familiarize ourselves with the student body and make sure students know that HELP Ministries is always a reliable source for students to come and join whether they seek to further their faith and religion or getting to know people around campus who help bring Christ to campus life,” said cofounder Alexis C.
Beyond Bible studies, the group is also known for its uplifting gospel services, where both students and alumni contribute through preaching and performing gospel music. The songs range from heartfelt covers of classics to original compositions, providing attendees with an inspiring and soulful experience. These activities, along with events like Sip N Paint, reflect the organization’s commitment to blending faith and fellowship in meaningful ways.
The history of HELP Ministries is as inspiring as its mission. The organization began humbly in a dorm room, where a small group of students came together to share their faith. These early members were determined to create a space on campus where students could connect with their beliefs and share the gospel with others. Their dedication and hard work transformed HELP Ministries into one of the first student-run organizations at the Dobbs Ferry campus. Today, it serves as a testament to the power of faith and community.
For many attendees, the Sip N Paint event was a unique opportunity to try something new. Brandon S, a first-year student, summed up the appeal perfectly.
“It honestly just sounded fun, and it was something to do,” he said. “I’ve never painted before, so I wanted to try it.”
His sentiment echoed throughout the room as students sipped on refreshing beverages and tried their hands at painting, some for the first time.
The Commuter’s Lounge was transformed into a lively, colorful space. Easels and canvases lined the room, and students were encouraged to unleash their creativity. Some painted serene landscapes, while others opted for abstract designs or personal interpretations of their favorite themes. Music played softly in the background, adding to the relaxed and cheerful ambiance.
But Sip N Paint events offer more than just a creative outlet. Many people are drawn to these experiences because they provide a rare opportunity to focus on mindfulness and self-expression. In a world often dominated by academic or professional pressures, painting offers a way to de-stress and embrace the joy of creating something tangible. For students, especially, events like this serve as a much-needed break from their demanding routines.
“Painting is therapeutic and I like to be around creativity and people who try to at least try new things,” says HELP Ministries member Marlene.
HELP Ministries members were on hand to guide the evening and introduce themselves to attendees, creating a welcoming and inclusive environment. Students chatted with one another as they worked on their creations, sharing laughs and exchanging tips. For many, the event was an opportunity to meet new people and feel more connected to their campus community.
As the evening drew to a close, students proudly displayed their finished paintings, many of which were vibrant reflections of their individuality. Some participants shared plans to hang their creations in their dorm rooms or give them as gifts. Others expressed excitement about future HELP Ministries events, eager to explore more ways to engage with the organization.
By blending creativity with connection, the Sip N Paint reflected the organization’s mission of fostering belonging and faith on campus. The event reminded students that HELP Ministries is more than just a faith-based group—it’s a community dedicated to supporting its members in all aspects of their lives.
With its emphasis on relaxation, artistic expression, and interpersonal connections, the Sip N Paint event exemplified what HELP Ministries is all about bringing people together to learn, grow, and support one another. For those who attended, it was an evening to remember and a meaningful step toward building stronger connections on campus.
By continuing to host events like this, HELP Ministries not only introduces students to its mission but also enriches the campus experience, making Dobbs Ferry a more welcoming and vibrant place for all.
