College can be a task. When students first get into college, he or she may be used to it after a while of overwhelming themselves with college, which is certainly not like high school. But eventually, the student was able to get used to it and continue a path to success. But it is not easy, and the results come from what a student makes of it
Being a student for three years at Mercy University, you notice College is not for everyone. Students give themselves a week into college before they decide to give up or try to pace themselves for at least a semester. But in the end, they gave up. Instead, students either have an increased amount of procrastination or do not have the motivation to try. Now college is not a destination you must pursue, but students having a support system to back them up would benefit them to try harder and not give up. College is not suited for every student and that is completely fine. Some students just don’t push themselves or when they do, when situations get difficult, they don’t have a support system to back them up.
But having a certain program that can push students to reach their full potential, making sure students are on the right track would be a great idea to come into play. When help is needed with classes you speak to your advisors for academic advice. Speak to them to figure out your path to academic success. But what if they gave you an extra push? Mercy University’s pact members have created an program this year to extend more help toward students who are at high risk of falling beyond on studies. A program being on PACT members minds for a long time since the 2022 Fall Semester. Fully flourishing into Spring’s 2023 semester.
Engaging with students, lending an helping hand with class registration. Students having trouble choosing the right classes for majors, PACT resolves that problem for the students. Class is dropped PACT has to know, in order for the students to be on track. Inquiries about financial aid. Wanting students to make sure they’re on the right path financially. Adding minors for students. Any way to make sure students never have the chance to fall behind but instead soar.
Academic coaching takes their focus upon skill development. Helping students become the best versions of themselves. Students develop the tendencies of bad habits. Bad habits consists of late assignments, poor grades, and distracting multitasking.
Bad habits happens to college students navigating the college world. When adjusted things get easier for students working on careers. But with developed bad habits, all students can do is make their years tough upon them.
PACT comes to the rescue with Academic Coaching as they promote good habits, habits that can help reinvent themselves as a new person. Mercy University PACT Supervisor Deanna Stufano sees Academic Coaching as a way to get students on the right track. Deanna sees the program as a way to give students a helping hand.
Stufano said, “This program can really help students from being on a high possibility from falling behind. We as Pact make sure students can get back on track with our help.”
Mercy University Pact Member and Associate Director Rob Cornetta is involved with the Academic Program, being the prime provider for the program. Cornetta sees the program as a way to make students better. Students having a way to put 100% effort with their studies. But without the motivation some students tend to lack, that is where the program comes into play.
Cornetta said, “Now we’re putting it out to more students to see who’s interested. That’s why you seen flyers around campus I know our campus life team is putting it on the TV’s, on the campuses. Office of accessibility has been referring students there if they’ve come to them and stressed concerns.”
Cornetta added, “We’re trying to spread the word more, about the services that are there. And to really connect with as many students as possible.”
With the program, Cornetta offers drop in hours, giving students the opportunity to stop by and ask questions about anything they need academically. Vary around Zoom meetings and in person meetings. Students can stop by anytime when help is needed.
Cornetta added, “If you are interested in Academic Coaching, there’s a place where you can sign up and then someone will reach out to you.”
Cornetta continued, “Universities are really putting an emphasis on students success but I think this is something that’s really been important to us and you know, helping students graduate as close to four years as possible. It’s the goal. We want to increase graduation rates, we want to see our students succeed and come in earn their degrees. Go out and get the job they’re looking for.”
Both Stufano and Cornetta provided a list of perks and benefits the Academic Coaching Program gives students who are in need;
- Raising GPA.
- Time Management.
- Note taking skills.
- Exam preparation.
- Connection to resources.
- Studying skills.
- Being a source of encouragement.
Cornetta said, “We’re excited about this. Like I said the more students that can get involved the better. If you’re someone who is unsure of how it might help you, reach out. If you are someone who is not having the best experience or is struggling with an issue, whether it’s academic or not academic, reach out.”
When it comes to college, students have a tough time adjusting. But with external help to provide you with the best of interest. Student will not have a problem succeeding with the amount of support around you. Attending Mercy University for the first time as a new student. Students will take time to get used to the atmosphere. If struggling PACT will always be there for students who needs guidance. Needs help. A program Pact is very excited on providing for students in need of success.
