Mercy University has been a school opening arms for upcoming students attending its prestigious campuses. Opening their aims for the returning students getting back into their studies. Mercy has a variety of campuses that include the Bronx, Manhattan, and Westchester campuses, all three consist of providing the tools to assist their students.
Mercy University’s Manhattan campus has stood out to the students. Westchester’s campus is an overall campus that captures the interest of students around the world while Bronx’s campus peaks the least interest with students. Students head to class and go home after, lacking the interest of interaction with other students. Students see Bronx’s campus as a commuter campus.
Located in Herald Square, Penn Station, the dynamic on Manhattan’s campus takes a good toll upon the students. Being based in New York City, students can find interesting things involved with the campus and around it. Leaving after class is over, students bump into fast food establishments, retail stores and exhibits gives students the New York experience.
Career counselor and manager Mariana Ayerbe views the Manhattan Campus as a space for students to build a bond together. Creating a relationship with one another. Ayerbe said, “It’s fun, really comfortable, it’s pretty. Students enjoy their time. I’ve only worked in the Manhattan campus but it’s great. The center of everything.”
Erica Wu is a career counselor, that aids with Career and Professional Development. Helping students at Mercy University in the Manhattan campus sees the Manhattan campus brings students together as a family who can be united. Wu said, “It’s livelier there.” The Bronx campus comes to aid for students who live in the Bronx. Campus for the university provides tools academically for the students to succeed. Students see the Bronx campus as a location to get work done. The students do not see the campus to meet new people or to be interactive. Students around the Bronx area expect the outcome of attending the Bronx campus due to the campus being quiet.
While in Manhattan, students who live in the city would attend there except for students commuting from the Bronx. International students as well.
Having a big mix between students around the city and students around the world, the dynamic of Manhattan’s campus welcomes students with open arms, being friendly towards new and upcoming students when getting adjusted to what students can call home for academic careers. Students with young intellectual minds and bright futures ahead of them.
Returning students are friendly, a friendly and productive environment around the campus. Mercy University Student Denzel Rollie sees the Manhattan Campus as a vibrant nature with students interactive with each other, making the environment alive. Rollie said, “Here in Manhattan I feel like, there’s everything you can do out here. Macy’s, H&M, having a walk around Times Square. At least feel the energy in the city.”
Campus life provides activities throughout every part of the university but students in Manhattan become more engaged with what they are offered. Fewer students attend campus life activities in the Bronx campus while in Manhattan’s campus life activities, an increased number of students will join. Students spend more time together with friends after class. Students provide hangouts when there is no class.
Wu being involved in student’s academic career, she had explained that students reach out for more help in the Manhattan campus than other campuses. Wu said, “One student I met at the start of the semester needed help for work-study. Spoke to him for five minutes and that was the last time I spoke to him. But I would still see him in the hallways, and we would say hi to each other.”
Students attending Mercy University’s Manhattan campus become incredibly open to building relationships with professors and staff. Connections help students after college with more opportunities surrounding student’s majors. Students attending Bronx or Westchester’s universities only seek help and that is it. Never see them again. The Manhattan campus also provides nursing students with a program for nursing students’ studies. Gaining the attraction for nursing students.
Mercy University’s Manhattan campus is a very interactive campus. Help when needed. Creates a bond with students, building upon it for the rest of student’s academic careers. Students are more engaged with each other, creating friendships and relationships down the line, in terms of studying and hanging out together. Students going to Mercy University want to attend a campus for their career but also to meet new people and create relationships, and overall have an academic future.
