Mercy Campus Life kicked off the fall semester with a huge crowd for our Fall 2024 Club Fair. The fair had a huge turn out and many students became parts of clubs taking the next step into making this semester an active one.
Around fifteen clubs got together and set up a table outside of Hudson Hall on our Dobbs Ferry campus. Students had the opportunity to explore Mercy’s campus life and learn how they can get involved on campus. Tables includes information about the club, candy, drinks, etc. for students to enjoy while speaking to club leaders.
There is a club for everyone in the Mercy community, whether someone wants to show case their art in the art club or learn how to put on a performance in the theatre club, anyone can find a club that fits their interest.
Marc Palmieri, the faculty advisor of the theatre club, highlights the impact that the club has had on the community for seven years. Students have the opportunity to take this experience and learn how to grow their confidence and gain skills in communication,
voice, and teamwork training.
“We have since held highly successful short play showcase nights and length plays both on our Lecture Hall stage at the Westchester campus and on the stage at Irvington Town Hall Theater. Last spring club members performed in a new play festival hosted by Irvington Theater.”
Freshman Rene Aguilar, got to experience firsthand how clubs can come to be through a conference he attended at Mercy where he learned tips on how to start and manage a club for the first time in his college career.
To anyone interested in joining the theatre club, the most important thing to know from Aguilar is “it doesn’t matter the skill. You are on the stage, you are in your character. Show your emotion and love for the character and show that you are willing to work hard” because the main goal is to make the audience feel like they are in the play with the actors.
Meanwhile, Skyla Davila, our veteran president of the Art Club noticed a genuine lack of art presence outside of our major here at Mercy, and she wanted to change that. She did just that by having over fifty people signed up for the organization and it has now reached over one hundred members who will thrive and show off their creative and artsy side while showing the importance of networking and leadership.
“If you join a club and eventually becoming a staff member for that club (treasurer, secretary, even president) that stuff looks really good on your resume! It shows that you didn’t go to college just to take classes and graduate, but rather that you wanted to be involved with the community and other people with same interests and niches!”
