College students have been influenced to finding ways of being creative by developing their entertainment and staying active while living in campus dorms. The importance of entertainment in dorms helps students have a break from school and reduces stress that they will often face while attending college.
Researchers have reported that variety of ways that college students get them entertainment comes from gaming, participating in leisure activities and socializing with friends. Students who dorm on average spend at least 2o hours per week on entertainment that is associated with helping mental health.
Mercy University campus have always provided activities and events for dorm residents to feel engaged and building connections that will last forever. Students are welcomed to have fun hosted by residential assistants of the campus halls rather than feeling isolated in the rooms throughout the semester.
The events bring a fun experience for students to embark in that will create college memories and leave a mark for the next generation of students to continue the tradition. The more college students attend these events, the better they will have good college career and are succeeding academically.
Mercy student Jasmine Langer finds the campus events entertaining to step away from homework and has continued to attend these activities as many as she can while balancing work and school.
“The campus events are very cool and interesting to be a part of as a resident in the dorms. They mostly do games, parties, and fun activities for students to prevent mental health and to get out of their comfort zone,” Langer said.
Another way that students have found their entertainment on campus is usual attending sport events for all the athletic team home games and clubs around the school. The clubs are design to bring new creative ideas that can benefit socialization for students and establishes friendships in college. The idea is to allow students to join different groups of hobbies that lets them find their interests for free time while living in campus dorms.
According to Inside Higher Ed, about 6o percent of college students spend at least one hour a week in student clubs on campus that involves the impact of participation. Students who participate in these clubs are finding a hobby outside of school that can be engaging and fun to be around something special that they enjoy the most.
Sporting events packs up all dorm residents to come check out Mercy’s athletic teams compete at home which opens an exciting experience and gives a huge crowd of audience. Students can enjoy the fun of action as they cheer on the school’s sport teams and help them win the games with celebrations at the end.
Most residential dormers mostly show up to watch the men and women’s basketball games in the Neil Judge Center to support both teams and interrogate the opponents. The students are engaged in the physical competition of the game and are an impactful help to the school pull out a great performance.
Junior student Lucas Edwards has attended the basketball games occasionally which he definitely enjoys watching both teams play hard and compete at a high level every time he sees them play.
“It’s fun to check out both the men and women’s basketball teams get better each year and win games at that are special. The action is fierce and brings the crowd involved to make some noise.” Edwards said.
Residential buildings also provide flat screen televisions in the lounges on every floor for the dormers to watch tv outside the rooms if they don’t have entertainment. The televisions have streaming apps and cable shows sponsored by Samsung to deliver the students with shows that their used to watching.
Dormers are welcomed to bring in their own TVs and gaming station in the rooms to have their own entertainment and don’t feel like using the tv in the lounge. Some of the TVs brought in by the dormers are usual medium size with the streaming apps connected to the station to provide the entertainment.
Research has shown that below 50 percent of college students used their own television in dorms depending on the population of the school’s state. Students who don’t have TVs would stick to using entertainment by streaming apps from the laptop or smart phone to catch all the action.
Mercy sophomore Jason Pagan priorities his entertainment through using a smart computer to do work for classes and watching shows during his free time.
“The smart computer I have is easier for me to develop entertainment in my room and I can also play video games on here if I’m not busy throughout the day,” Pagan said.
Building entertainment in campus dorms lets students feel the need to have freedom and being active with themselves that can benefit mental health becoming a problem. All the resources that the school provides makes students welcomed into a clean environment which is important in college.
College students are going to face tough challenges but having entertainment can change the perspective of allowing good mood and better success in school. Entertainment in dorm rooms is beneficial for students and should always be a mechanism to cope with stress and avoiding mental problems.
