Men’s Soccer First Loss
The Mercy men’s soccer team suffers their first loss on the season at the hands to Southern Connecticut State University, falling to a 3-1 decision.
Southern Connecticut scored the first two goals of the game. The first coming in the third minute of action by Yannick Hilpert, who had a game-high two goals. The goal came off an assist by Leroy Best. The scored remained 1-0 until halftime. Simon Steffensen made his only two saves in the first half to keep Mercy in the game.
The lead grew to 2-0 in the 54th minute on a Zachary Tuccitto goal. He was set up by Arnold Signell.
The Mavericks were finally able to score in the 72nd minute of the game, dropping the lead to 2-1. The goal was Nicolas Cerda’s second of the season, and he was assisted by fellow freshman Mathias Schilbred-Eriksen . On his second goal of the day, Hilpert iced the game with a scored penalty kick in the 86th minute. The Mavs were unable to score for the rest of the game, losing 3-1.
The Owls held edges on shots, 11-10, and shots on goal, 5-3. Corner kicks and saves were tied.
