A Mirrow Reflecting: Eating Disorders

When we all hear about eating disorders, our naturalistic instincts tell us that is associated with traumas and bad habits. The term eating disorders is very common in the United States due to the social imbalance faced everyday by the American population. This condition involve series disturbances in eating behavior during our childhood and adulthood stages. Problems such as obesity, anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa are all covered by eating disorders. Eating Disorders is often related to obesity because of the relationship of gain-lost weight between these two psychosocial conditions. Likewise Eating disorders has become a harmful conditions for people living in the Western Hemisphere due to the risk of bad alimentation.

The USA is the second country in the world with the highest number of overweight people within its population. Eating disorders is very hard to manage because of its complexity. It is involving the psychosocial influences on an individual to determine the choices of food this individual is making. The oppression and the demands of today’s society can lower the self-esteem of a person. However we all are judge on our personal appearance and the need of seeking of beauty so that way we can have all of our desires.

There are many causes for eating disorders which lead a person to develop this condition. When it comes to emotions we get concerned because eating disorders it’s very strong connective with a person’s feelings. Some of these emotions are treated as symptoms for eating disorders. Low Self-esteem, stress, frustration, loneliness, tension, angriness, family pressure, friends, and depression are some of the common symptoms that lead a person to develop bad eating habits or eating problems. I have firsthand experiences dealing with Eating Disorders and with its symptoms.

During my puberty to adolescent stages I battle a lot to rebuild my confidence in myself. I used to be shy and very simple. I was very skinny at one point in my live and I have to battle with the pressure of my family, friends and comments on people about myself. They were all telling me about how skinny I look and that I need to eat more and more. This pressure and my lack of knowledge at the time make me to have an earlier stage of anorexia.

Every time I see myself in the mirror I see myself fat and I use to make myself to vomit the supposed food I was eating. Fortunately it didn’t develop that far because I asked for help without telling anybody and now a days I am fully recovered.

In our contemporary society when American people tends to humiliate and under depress people is difficult to be strong and keep moving forward but nothing is impossible. My advice for any of the people that are suffering from any of these conditions is that first eliminate you appetite by doing more activities and thinking less in food. Second do not be obsessive with food use food wisely eat right, eat vegetables, protein, potato makes you feel fulfill for the rest of the day. Make your own plan of eating, eat right not less. Third eliminates anxiety by going to the gym, do meditation, talk to people about eating disorders guide yourself to be free. Fourth change your habits and your routines expend more time with the people you enjoy the most try new methods of behaviors. Honor your, you perfect in your own way, ask for help and education.

Our limitations exits within our own minds. Be the change you want to see in the world. Turn you negativity into your positivity, see food as the way to keep developing your body, drink water, be healthy. As Adele said “I like looking nice, but I always put comfort over fashion. I don’t find thin girls attractive; be happy and healthy. I’ve never had a problem with the way I look. I’d rather have lunch with my friends than go to a gym.” And as Shakespeare’s Ophelia in Hamlet says  We know what we are but not what we may be.”

Love yourself.
