National Basketball Association (NBA) is a professional basketball organization that comprises of many teams in the United States and Canada. The association is also considered the premier professional basketball league in the world. Since the league was founded in 1946, the sport has established many NBA dynasty teams that have included great players who have brought multiple championships to the franchises over the last decade. The teams have often been built through the draft and free agency that has saw incredible pairings that fans have wanted to capture over the years. Here are my top five all-time favorite NBA dynasty teams.
5) Boston Celtics (1957-1969)
The Boston Celtics were one of the longest dynasties to win eleven NBA championships in the first eleven of the thirteen seasons of the league. Bill Russell was one of the most dominating players to play for the Celtics where he established a great career that would last for many years. Coach Auerbach designed the franchise to have a lasting impact by bringing good players to complement Russell and won coach of the year in 1965. The Celtics have still continued to win more championship in the next decade and are currently tied with the Lakers for the most NBA titles.
4) Golden State Warriors (2014-2019)
The Golden State Warriors were one of the youngest dynasties to win three NBA titles in five seasons. The trio of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green led the team with their hustle and three-point shooting that made them an unstoppable team to beat. Steve Kerr, a former NBA player was named coach of the year in his second season and Curry won the Most Valuable Player in back-to-back seasons during the team’s dynasty run. The best season was during 2015-2016 when the Warriors set a franchise record finishing the season 73-9.
3) Los Angeles Lakers (1996-2004)
One of the best guard/ post duos to ever form in the league created a new dynasty in Los Angeles that led the Lakers to three straight NBA championships since 1988. A young Kobe Bryant and an upcoming prime Shaquille O’Neal joined forces for eight seasons to bring Los Angeles back to the winning ways and adding more accolades to the franchise. Phil Jackson took over as head coach after leading the Chicago Bulls to multiple back-to-back titles to begin a new legacy. The Lakers were a team that played with heart and were entertaining to watch during the success of the eight years.
2) San Antonio Spurs (2003-2014)
The first international trio in professional basketball to bring San Antonio four of the five titles, a French, an Argentian, and an American of Virigin Island decent established the “Big Three” as one of the most dominating dynasties in NBA history. Tim Duncan, the heart and soul of San Antonio, led the franchise to its first title in 1999 alongside David Robinson when they formed the “Twin Towers” and continued to bring another four with the franchise. Tony Parker, French basketball player, took over the point guard duty in 2001 where he became a sentimental part of the championship runs. Manu Ginobili, Argentian great, was one of the best international shooters to ever play the game and had an amazing basketball career. Coach Popovich was named coach of the year three times during the decade of team’s dominates and was the brains behind building this great group.
1) Chicago Bulls (1991-1998)
The Bulls were a top-tier dynasty in the NBA during the 90s that three-peated two times in the amazing seven years of success in the franchise. Michael Jordan led his team with grit and competitiveness during those seasons and built a marvelous career in Chicago that established him as the goat. Scottie Pippen was the Robin to Jordan who was a great shooter and continued to elevate throughout his basketball career. Dennis Rodman was good pick-up for Chicago who was well-known for his rebounding and defense during the team’s last three championship runs. Role players like Ron Harper and Tony Kukoc were outstanding athletes and played a huge role of contributing to the team. Phil Jackson was a key component to building this team together and was named coach of the year in 1996 when they won their fourth championship.
