Mercy College has announced via email an immediate closure of all campuses as a precautionary measure following the outbreak of coronavirus (COVID-19) throughout the Westchester area. 

After weeks of ongoing concern regarding the virus, which has seen the closure of various New York schools, including New York University, Hofstra, and Pace, Mercy College has joined the folds by announcing a temporary closure of all campuses until March 15, “out of an abundance of caution.” 

Any events prior to March 15, including classes, faculty seminar day, and all athletic events, have been canceled. Faculty members will carry out their regular schedules until further notice.

All academic instruction will take place online beginning Monday, March 16 and continue until Sunday, Mar. 22.

“There are no classes during spring recess, which is Monday, March 23 through Sunday, March 29. During this period, we will assess whether to continue online instruction further. More information about this will follow,” stated the email.

Residential students will be assisted during their transition should they continue their studies from home.

The state of New York has seen the largest number of infected victims in the United States, with over 140 known cases. From schools to towns to countries, the virus has wreaked havoc throughout the world.
