10 Classic Millennial Movies to Reminisce Over

Since quarantine is still affecting most people, what better way is there to take our minds off of it than rewatching some favorites from back in the day. With the countless streaming services and television channels, it isn’t hard to find what you’re looking for. One thing that has made quarantine great for a lot of people is the easy access to all kinds of at-home entertainment. Check out this list of 10 movies you should rewatch if you’re a millennial.

10.) “Zenon: Girl of the 21st Century” (1999) https://youtu.be/MdTmEvmNkvI

Zenon is out of this world, literally. Well, kind of. It takes place above our world, in space. This movie, and the series it’s a part of, follows a young space cadet trying to live a normal, tween life, and experience concerts and drama all while in space. Trouble ensues, obviously, but it’s definitely a great laugh. How can you not forget about what’s happening today when you see some of their “fashion” choices?

9.) “Smart House” (1999) https://youtu.be/RxUZb3WnTpo

Now, this was a scary movie. Well, maybe. This movie has a theme of advanced technology, growing, and learning. Most would say that it has the potential to be quite scary. In just one day, technology outsmarts humans. The technology of the world today is arguably breaching the point of fear. Back then, it must have been terrifying to imagine. Still a great, funny classic – sure to bring its viewers back to their childhood

8.) “Spider-Man” (2002) https://youtu.be/jM7Eou4bV-Q

Superhero movies have been a bit of a phenomenon; probably even a bit of a fad. However, in 2002 this movie was one of the first of its time. Also, what a movie for New Yorkers – to see their city on the big screen with a superhero fighting crime in it. Though it’s not a part of the MCU storyline most people are familiar with, it was still a huge hit. Director Sam Raimi really took the time to research the fandom, the storyline, and character. This is the darkest version of Peter Parker that has been seen in a live-action film and arguably the most “adult.” Why not go back in time with this old-timey Peter Parker?

7.) “Men in Black” (1997) https://youtu.be/q3OTEdZkBaQ

Another one, not just for New Yorkers, but for everyone who enjoys some weird gooey stuff! Definitely one of the late 90s’ greatest hits. MIB took two great, very different actors and brought them together for another futuristic drama, but this time it involved aliens. When two cool guys in nice suits shoot an invading alien with a specialized weapon meant to kill an extraterrestrial, it’s hard to argue with. Go back and rewatch. Who knows when aliens will attack New York. Better to be prepared.

6.) “Jurassic Park” (1993) https://youtu.be/PJlmYh27MHg

Now this one, everyone remembers! A young Jeff Goldblum introducing viewers to monsters they thought were long extinct! This movie led to numerous sequels and a few reboots. Isn’t it fun reminiscing about wild bloodthirsty dinosaurs gone awry?

5.) “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” (1992) https://youtu.be/I2hYSJGXPi0

Not the TV show! This movie led to the classic, well-known Joss Whedon television drama. Sometimes you need a bit of failure before you get to the goods, and this was a relative failure. Really dedicated fans love the movie and recognize it was the basis for the television drama. Most movie lovers might not actually know about this cult classic, but it’s worth taking a look at.

4.) “The Parent Trap” (1998) https://youtu.be/PMAhVpgzmRU

Oh – a young Lindsay Lohan. If this doesn’t take a viewer back to the good ol’ days, what will? This is a great classic that has had a few robots, but anyone that considers themselves a millennial will know it. Who doesn’t love the lizard scene? While you are at it, you should check out the “behind the scenes” if you want to hear more about the lizard problem.

3.) “Legally Blonde” (2001) https://youtu.be/IrDm-HzK2y8

A lawyer as glamorous as Elle Woods is sure to inspire the fabulous in you. Legally Blonde will take you back to the best days of your teen years. This film is sure to inspire young girls and grown women who need a little extra something to get them going. Pretty in pink was the name of her game. What a story about feminism!

2.) “Mean Girls” (2004) https://youtu.be/re5veV2F7eY

You can’t sit with us….just kidding, go ahead! Mean Girls is one of those movies that can be quoted until the cows come home, and most people won’t get sick of it. The quotes and memories this movie created are quite monumental for the teens of that time. It was such a classic and was even made into a Broadway musical. Don’t forget: on Wednesdays, we wear pink!

1.) “Hocus Pocus” (1993) https://youtu.be/F4e6YQFrt1s

Halloween is slowly approaching. What better movie than “Hocus Pocus” to get you into the spirit? Kenny Ortega directed this classic that brought Bette Middler to a new generation. Now, every Halloween season, you can’t go anywhere without seeing this movie. You can’t avoid it even if you tried.

Enjoy these awesome, nostalgic movies! A great way to cure the quarantine blues or end of summer sadness. Let us know what other movies you love from back in the day!
